Beyond the ordinary
There are many more 'parts' to this author - he transformed from a Physical Education with extras teacher, into what he is now - he is poet, a story teller, a ghost story writer and an accomplished Artist, who has sold nation wide and Internationally. He has been an Artist for more years than he has been a Novelist. His journey has touched many, and his 'adventures' in life have been, it may seem extraordinary - yet most - down to the basics of life. His progress through writing - art - and pottery (which of course IS an art standing for hours feeding his wood fired kiln) - feeling peace of his surroundings and the sounds of his sheep and cattle just beyond the fence line - all have contributed to - what may seem an idyllic life. And yes it was. - But from changes unavoidable - he ventured further, leaving his art and writing for many years, and his yearning to return to 'that' creativity - was always there - so he became creative in other forms - hospitality, food and creative landscaping.

A background
Born - New Zealand - in Auckland - Scottish and English Heritage. Educated in Auckland – primary – intermediate and secondary, Kelston and Westlake High schools. Massey and Auckland Universities, studying Education; Psychology and History.
Trained in teaching at North Shore Teachers College – majoring in, and achieving Honours in Physical Education; Music; and Art.
Ambition – then – to be the best PE teacher – to be the best teacher of the subjects I majored in – then onto other parts of life, and finally attained Honours in Education and Psychology.
Was a highly successful Athlete and sportsman being a Provincial (State) representative in Athletics; Soccer; Rugby; Indoor Basketball; and Cricket.
Left teaching to pursue his love of Art had been successfully exhibiting in both painting and Pottery - and writing.
Purchased an old market garden with huge glass houses and became a 'grower' and a farmer of Cattle and sheep – added a Cottage Cafe to the property, and eventually after 8 years, sold, and opened the second of his Restaurants – eventually having 10 in different towns and cities. One of which was written up as the best seafood Restaurant in the City.
Writing and Art disappeared for the next 15 years.
Has set up successful businesses, dealing with landscaping, interior design added three more hospitality ventures to the previous seven – then later, moved back into his people work, for five years, as a Psychologist/Counsellor/Mentor. And – just for extra 'fun' - has been a successful off shore sailor.
There are other parts of life, that I am unable to explain or talk about - and those parts are some of which makes life so intriguing!
I moved to the south of the South Island of NZ with my partner Betty-Anne at the end 1999 experiencing what the south and the amazing people present in life to you – and at last, returned to my art and writing.
Now I Work part time as a Tourist Guide; (At the famed Larnach Castle) run an Art Society; and I am exhibiting again. Actually now over the past 25 years! My Instagram roger_weston_artandbooks
And yes, writing and trying to resurrect many 'works' sitting idle, and has done so with so far four Novels Published, three poetry volumes and two volumes of short stories - more is coming, as I am working on two more novels, more short stories and Poetry.
I now have lived for nearly 17 years in Broad Bay near the city of Dunedin - on the Otago Peninsula. Where else would one wish to live!?
